Almandine Garnets are a beautiful red gemstone that has been found in jewellery back around 3500 BC by the ancient Egyptians. An affordable stone that can be used in any type of jewellery with a hardness from 7 to 7.5 making them very durable.
Almandine is perhaps the most common form of Garnets and predominantly is found in a variety of Reds with hints of Brown, Orange or Purple. Most are found in Brazil, India, Madagascar, Sri Lanka and the United States with other smaller deposits found in Europe and the Czech Republic. The birthstone of January and it also represents the star sign of Aquarius. It is also known and the friendship gemstone.
To clean your beautiful Garnet gemstone, use a mixture of mild soap and warm water and then use a small cloth or soft toothbrush. Rince thoroughly in room temperature water and remove any soapy residue for the best finish. Almandine Garnets can be cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner but make sure they are not exposed to extreme weather conditions as this may cause fracturing.
