A stunning little opal that would make beautiful ring for that special someone. When the sunlight hits this stone the play of fire red refractions is amazing. Don’t forget to ask about having our individual one-off natural stones turned into a beautiful piece of jewellery.

In a cave in Kenya, Louis Leakey, the famous anthropologist, uncovered the earliest known opal artifacts. Dating back to about 4000 B.C., they most likely came from Ethiopia. Historically, opal discoveries and mining progressed similarly to the ways diamond, emerald, ruby and sapphire were produced. Ethiopian opal was first commercially mined in 2008 after the rediscovery in 1990. Most come from Ethiopia's northern Welo (or Wello) District. A range of deposits in the area offer a range of opal types, including types found at Australia’s Cooper Pedy mines! While not considered as valuable as their Australian counterparts they have amazing colours and vibrance. To many they would not be able to tell the difference between an opal from Cooper Pedy and one from Ethiopia thus making them and amazing gemstone for jewellery.

Opals are the birthstone of October and also a gift for the 14th wedding anniversary.
